Which AI Assistant Is Worth Paying For? Claude Pro vs Google AI Pro, From India
I pay $20 a month for Claude Pro and get Google AI Pro free as a student. One runs out on me 2 to 3 days a week, the other about once a week. Here is the one I would keep.
Short answer
For my client work, Claude Pro is the one I would keep, even though it runs out on me 2 to 3 days a week. Google AI Pro covers more kinds of work for me, but I get it free through a student offer, so I cannot tell you whether it is worth paying for.
$20 a month, and it still runs out on me 2 to 3 days in a week. That is Claude Pro, and I would keep it over the plan I get for nothing.

I pay $20 a month for Claude Pro and use it for client project code. I run out of my limit 2 to 3 days a week, and when that happens I stop and wait for the reset rather than move the job somewhere else. I also have Google AI Pro free through Google's student offer in India, and I use Gemini there for writing and emails, some coding, research questions, and images and video. That one runs out on me about once a week. If I could keep only one of the two, I would keep Claude Pro.
The limits on both plans
Both paid plans still have a cap. Google's page calls its limits expanded, and Claude Pro has a cap too. For me the cap is the downside, because it arrives in the middle of a job. If you code for clients, work out which plan survives your heaviest day, not which one is cheaper.
Claude runs out more often in my week, and it is still the one I would pay for. On those 2 or 3 days I wait for the window to reset; I do not move a half-finished client job to another tool and re-explain the whole thing.
What Gemini covers for me
Gemini does more kinds of work for me: drafts and emails, research questions, images and video, plus some coding. The student offer means I pay nothing for all of that. I have never paid Google's list price, so I have no opinion on whether that price is fair.
Claude does connect to Gmail and Calendar as well. I set that up in this Claude Pro connector walkthrough, and I did it on this same Pro plan.

Is Claude Pro worth $20 a month from India?
For my client project code, it is. Expect to hit the usage limit; I do on 2 or 3 days in a week, and I wait for the reset.
Can I get Google AI Pro free?
I got it through Google's student offer. Google sets and changes the terms of that offer, so check what is available when you sign up.
Does Google AI Pro include the Chrome agent?
Google's plans page lists Chrome auto browse for Pro in the US and India. I have not used it; I only used the side panel, which I wrote about in my Gemini in Chrome piece.
